Colorado: from final payment to clear title.

The Colorado guide below works one post-payoff title problem back through the state's documents and release process.

DMV SNAPSHOT
Title system
Colorado supports Electronic Lien and Title (ELT), but a lien can also be associated with a physical title depending on the lienholder and record.
After payoff
For an ELT record, Colorado DMV says the state releases the lien in its system after the lienholder reports satisfaction and sends a new title to the owner. For a physical title, the lienholder should send the title plus a lien-satisfaction letter or stamp.
Lien release
Electronic liens are released through the ELT message. A paper lien release must identify the lienholder consistently and include the authorized release signature and date.
Owner action
If the lienholder physically held the title, take the released title and supporting release to the county motor vehicle office to obtain a clean title. For ELT, make sure the lender has your current mailing address because Colorado says that is the address used for the new title.
Timing
Colorado's lien FAQ does not publish one statewide post-payoff mailing deadline for owners. It emphasizes the lender's release and correct mailing address rather than a guaranteed processing window.
